The art of breaking and healing

The art of breaking and healing

This is a metamorphosis piece depicting a plate shattering and reforming into a rose while utilizing 36 colors of the color wheel, each color has an emotional meaning from square to square. The colored-tied emotions go perfectly with the social value of this piece. Everyone, at some point, has had their hearts broken or have lost someone very dear to them. There are five stages of grief that we go through at this time, before the first stage we are in a state of disbelief, the color of purple and the plate remaining whole. As the first stage, denial, begins cracks appear in the plate and the color turns to shades of yellow and orange yellow as confusion and anxiety are experienced. As denial turns to anger the plate shatters and turns red and purple red, the colors of anger bitterness. When the anger runs its course the shattered pieces morph into petals of bargaining expressing frustration and frantic attempts with orange and orange red. At last the realization hits that no amount of bargaining will change what happened, the petals come together in depression, blues and green blues taking place of frustration. Final we come to acceptance, the petals have pulled themselves together to form a beautiful white rose. Putting the past back in the past where it belongs and looking towards the future the colors of green and yellow green in the background show enthusiasm and contentment.
